Senior Camogie V Oulart

cam Senior Camogie team that played Oulart last Monday  1 July in the second Senior Championship game, we went down 2-15 to 1-11

Katrina Parrock was a hudge loss after breaking a bone in her thumb in the County match at the weekend, and our centre forward Bridget Curran, sustained an early injury to her heel which eventually forced her off in the 40th minute.  However, a number of positives did emerge, with Niamh Walsh coming into side at right half forward for her senior championship debut and scoring three superb points.  Niamh is a member of the County U16 team and had a very impressive outing.  The other young gun on the opposite wing, Hazel O’Leary chipped in with two excellent points while Sharron Daly was very impressive at left half back.

Early points from Niamh and Kate after Oulart/the Ballagh opened the scoring gave us the lead for the only time, but the visitors were never headed after they goaled in the eighth minute.  We trailed by 1-7 to 0-4 at half time, with Niamh and Kate (free) adding to our total but a couple of gilt edged goal chances were missed and we paid a heavy price.

In the second half we struggled to contend with Oulart/The Ballagh players driving forward from the middle third of the field, and many of their scores were chalked up far too easily as we found ourselves down by 2-10 to 0-6 by the 38th minute.  We did step it up somewhat in the last quarter and finally managed to score a goal against these opponents after several fruitless attempts in recent years when substitute Michelle Murphy drilled the ball to the net in added time.

Team as follows;  Sandy Carr, Ciara Donohoe (capt), Leona Tector, Maeve Quill, Fiona Cullen, Bridget Curran, Sharron Daly, Kate Kelly (0-6, 4 frees), Aine Lacey, Niamh Walsh (0-3), Anne-Marie Kelly, Hazel O’Leary (0-2), Shelly Doyle, Michelle Hearne, Deirdre McMahon.  Subs:  Michelle Murphy (1-0), for Curran (injured), also Mary Cullen, Aine Barron, Catherine Doyle, Eadaoin Fitzgerald, Ceara O’Brien, Lisa Quill, Nikki Scallan, Roisin Tobin.
