Junior Football Report

Shels Junior footballers met Cushinstown in league lately.

Shels started very strong in opening 20 minutes with a brace of points from the very impressive Derek Walsh. Liam Donnelly was also making life hard for the Cushinstown defence and he found the net after some nice link up play with Walsh. Shels suffered a bad blow when Donnelly had to leave the pitch with a blood injury with 20 minutes of the 1st half. Cushinstown came very strong towards the end of the 1st half and had 3 unanswered points followed by a well taken goal despite the best efforts of the ever green John Nolan. Half time score was 1- 5 to 1 – 3 in favour of Cushinstown
2ND half was a totally different affair with Liam Donnelly now moved to mid field to aid the hard working Emmett O leary and the very impressive Glen Malone. Shels changed their tactics and started to play quicker ball into the inside forward line where Michael Redmond and Steven Carr were now starting to make trouble for the Cushinstown defence. Meanwhile our defence was coping very well with everything Cushinstown could throw at them, Seamie Harding, Donal Power and Eoin Fitzgerald made some excellent blocks at crucial points in the games, one of these in particular turned the game when shells blocked a certain goal chance and moved the ball quickly down field where Michael Redmond finished with a excellent fisted goal. Redmond then set up 2 more scores before putting the game beyond doubt when he cooled finished to the net after sending the keeper the wrong way. Bobby Delaney added to the score with a point Matty Forde would be proud of.   Graham Lawler, Adrian Veale and Marc Walsh worked tirelessly in defence while up front Colin Redmond and the ever improving Steven Carr were always a threat. Final Score 3-10, Cushinstown 1-9.
