Thank you to Seanie O’Leary

Back in 2008, Kate Kelly, Bridget Curran and Alan Aherne were part of the Wexford contingent who visited London with the O’Duffy Cup for the Annual London-Wexford Association Dinner Dance, it was there we met Seanie O’Leary and his wife Marie.

Both natives for Tuskar View and Corish Park in Wexford town, who had emigrated many years ago.  Seanie and Marie are parents of TV and radio presenter Dermot O’Leary of the ‘X Factor’ fame.  Seanie was a very talented hurler with Faythe Harriers before leaving his native shore, but his enthusiasm for camogie, and his knowledge of what was going on despite being so far removed from the action, left a lasting impression on us all.

True to form, when patrons were sought for last year’s club history book, the O’Learys sent a cheque from their base in Colchester in Essex which was greatly appreciated.  When Kate travelled over to London again a few weeks ago for the latest Wexford Association gathering, it was clear to her that Seanie had read ‘Look small ….. Pull Big’ from cover to cover as he now has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the club which he was happy to share!  Seanie also presented Kate with another very generous donation for the club before they parted company.  He has been added to the list of subscribers to the newsletter so Seanie, on behalf of all of the Club, I would like to say another huge thank you and when you travel home this summer we will make sure that you visit us in Hollymount!  I imagine that the women wouldn’t be too upset either if you can get Dermot to tag along with you!
