Minors draw with Sars

smcgOur minor Footballers draw with Sarsfields. Sars 2-10 to Shels 3-07. Pic Attacker Stephen McGuire.

The Shels Minor Footballer’s got their season underway  Sunday 3/3/13 at Hollymount against a fast paced Sarsfields team.
Jody Donohoe’s point got the Shels off the mark first but the Sar’s replied with a goal. Shels had three unanswered points, two from Steven McGuire (one from a free) and one from Simon Donohoe before a great passage of play, a quick ball from Simon Donohoe out of the backs found Steven McGuire who picked out Jody Donohoe who in turn picked out Michael Feeney running in on goal and Michael wasted no time in slotting the ball to the back of the net. The mid field paring of Graham Staples and Eoghan Nolan were covering a lot of ground all through the match. Shels and Sar’s traded two points each, one from Steven McGuire and Eoghan Nolan putting one over from a 45.Just at the half time break Colin Cleary was brought down in the square with a harsh challenge and Steven McGuire put the resulting penalty neatly to the back of the net, Sar’s replied with a point from a free to leave the half time score Shels 2 06 Sarsfields 1 03.
The Shels were rocked at the start of the second half when a mix up on the goal line saw Sar’s goal from a ‘45.Colin Cleary who had shipped that heavy tackle in the first half limped off to be replaced by Cian Manley who along with Enda Cloake ,Joseph Redmond and Jody Donohoe are still juvenile. Two more points followed from Sar’s before McGuire pegged two back, one from a free. A goal and two points from the town team put them in front for the second time in the match. The Shels defence were really put to the pin of their collar for the remainder of the game (including five and a half minutes of injury time) but the Shels never say die attitude continued and Steven McGuire pulled them back with two points (one a free) to claim a share of the spoils
