U8 ‘Croke Park Experience’ Trip a proud day to be part of, as 40 of our U8 Shelmalier Boys had the privilege of travelling and playing on the Croke Park Sod today.
‘Follow us who Dares’ is right as the Black & Amber was the most prominent club Jersey present on the day. We had 2 Teams of 20 7 & 8 year olds playing a 10 a side 40 minute game. A fantastic day was enjoyed by all travelling by coach thankfully leaving the rain behind us, we reached Croke Park at 1pm. Having dined in the Davin Stand the boys were kitted out to perfection before heading on a tour of the dressing rooms. Lining out they came up the tunnel to rapturous applause and onto the pitch for their group photo. All smiles done, Helmets & Hurls were on and ready as each team headed to their pitch. Playing Blessington & Aughrim, the boys showed excellent ground hurling skills and their performances were commended by all our opponents and supporters including our very own County Representatives George O’Connor & Dave Guiney. On hearing the final whistle our boys were then led to the presentation area where a ‘Dummy Cup’ was lifted by all our players. Wow indeed an opportunity like this some of us have only ever dreamed of and to be a part of this experience today was an thrilling one. Our Boys done us proud in skill, behaviour, enjoyment and showing a hunger for the game. The future is theirs and the benefits of this day will hopefully be enjoyed in later days to come!! Of course our trip was finished of nicely in McDonalds where Happy Meals were plenty and to be honest could not have been happier!! Thanks to all our Mentors Martin, Sheila, Padraig, Myles, our fellow club officers Myles, Donal & Murt & parents who travelled & helped out on the day. To our Sponsors Denis Cloney supplying oranges for our Boys at half time, Flanagan’s for the Crisps & Sheila for the Bars all ensuring energy levels were kept to the maximum all day. Overall this day was a huge success for Coiste na nOg, a memorable one for our young boys and encouraging one for our game. Siol Maoluir Abu
