Badminton Fun Tournament

baOver thirty players competed in the Shelmalier Badminton Clubs Christmas Fun mixed competition in the Hollymount Complex on Tuesday night last.

A team lead by Seanie Redmond proved victorious after a night of keen competition with large amounts of craic and fun thrown in for good measure. The club has seen increased numbers of players on a weekly basis since it was formed a few months ago. The club has a broad range of abilities from people taking up the sport for the first time to those who have come out of retirement to play the game again. With all the players placed into separate team groups the competition organisers Colm Byrne and Theresa Roche got the players of their marks at 8pm sharp. There was keen interest in all matches as fellow team members gave great encouragement to their team mates. After four rounds of matches the result was in doubt to the very last match with Seanie’s team of Paul Tobin, Kevin O Connor, Eoghan Nolan, Trish Potter, Emer McCrea, Vinnie Parker and Sean Redmond victorious by the narrowest of margins over Noel Feeneys team of Colm Parker, John Nolan, Eoin O Leary, Anne Kent, Breda O Connor, Mary Rose Doyle and Noel Feeney.

The results were announced at a social in the Complex afterwards where the prizes were presented to winners and runners-up by the Club Chairman Seamus O’Leary.
