Minors leave it late

jgShels minor footballers left it late to overcome Castletown in Castletown today to reach the first Co. Final in 5 years. 

Despite the score this was a match up for grabs until the final minutes of the game. 2 late goals created by James Gordon and scored by Ronan Kavanagh and Niall Murphy left the final score an impressive 2-10 to 1-5.
Shels were forced to start without the influential Benny Barron.
In an evenly fought first half Shels led by 0-5 to 0-3 thanks to the accurate free taking of Feargal Hynes. Shane Birney made a spectacular save in the first few minutes and Cian Lambe after great work by James Gordon and Brian Doyle, fisted over a point on the close of half time. In the 2nd half the game continued to be close with a free converted by Craig McCabe before Castletown fighting hard to stay with the Shels levelled the game with a goal from their centre half forward, Brendan Halpin. Both sides traded point for point until a late Shels surge secured victory for the Shels. They will now meet Glynn/Barntown in the Co. Final, which will be a match not to be missed. Best on the day were James Gordon, Brian Doyle, Brian Tobin, Noel Mythen, Craig McCabe and Paraic O’Leary.
