Juniors avoid relegation

In our third game of the day a gutsy performance from our junior team to beat Ferns, meant we avoid relegation and look forward to playing Junior again next year.

Ibar Murphy with a brace of points got Shels off to a good start and Philip Walsh and Ciaran Walsh added a point each before Fergie Parker converted a long range free to go 0-5 to 0-1. in front. Philip Walsh added a point before Vinny Parker after good team work goaled just before half time. Half time score 1-6 to 0-3.
Ferns started the stronger and hit 1-1 before John Redmond steadied the Shels with two free’s well converted. Ibar Murphy added a free but then Ferns working hard to get back into the game scored 1-2 without reply. Shels dug deep and with a fantastic work rate which started on the half back line worked a fine pass into Philip Walsh who without hesitation blasted it to the back of the net. Shels were overjoyed when the same player goaled again on the resulting puck out. Ibar Murphy added a free whilst Ferns could only manage 2 consolation points to leave Shels victors 3-10 to 2-10.
Best on the day were Fergie Parker, James Murphy, Shane Griffith, Denis Kelly, Brian Tobin and Philip Walsh. Well done to goalie Brian (Turf) Murphy who must surely have had the busiest day in Shels history, playing in goal for all three semi finals and doing an outstanding job in all games.
