In our first ever Senior match in the Championship in the history of the club, Shelmaliers beat Wexford town team Sarsfields in Wexford Park on Sunday evening the 17th August.
Shels fought deep in terrible weather conditions to win out on a scoreline 1-9 to 1-6 against Wexford town team Sarsfields. Gareth Dunne opened Shels account but the challengers scored three points without reply before Terry Gainfort pointed. Sarsfields goaled soon after, but further points from Stephen Banville, Gareth Dunne and Alan Griffith meant Shels finished the first half, just two points down. On the resumption, quick points from Alan Griffith and Stephen Banville, followed by a classic goal ten minutes later from the boot of Stephen Banville, saw us quickly get into the stride of the game. Sub Eoin Doyle tagged on two super points, whilst the Sarsfields only managed two points in total for the entire second half. Best on the day were Stephen Banville, Clive Lawler and David Walsh.
