Shelmaliers were slow to start under 14 match.
A resilient second half performance wasn’t enough to claw back a fine Naomh Eanna outfit as an eager Shels team went under in the first round of the 14 hurling championship.
The Gorey attack was lethal in the first half as they romped to a half time lead of 5-6 to 1-1. Shels scores in the first half came from a Neal Rossiter free and a fine strike from Mark Mythen yielding a goal.
Only sterling defending from Eoin O’Leary and Adam Whitmore kept the Gorey team from adding to their total.
The Shels delivered a much improved second half performance with Neal Rossiter adding a goal and 3 points from frees with only Naomh Eanna adding a further five points to give them the points 5-11 to 2-4.
Conor Forde, James Cash and Gavin Potter all worked well in the 2nd half with Adam Whitmore giving a “rock” like performance at full back.
