Shels overcome Harriers in great encounter.
Fine performance by Shels under 14 hurlers.
The Shelmaliers under 14 hurlers had a fine 2-4 to 1-6 victory over near neighbours the Faythe Harriers in the second round of the championship played on Parc Charman on Wednesday evening last. The Wexford town side got off to a flying start with a goal after 5 minutes, but the Shels boys refused to let this get in their way, when replying with a fine goal from Simon Donohoe and a point from Neil Rossiter. Some outstanding hurling was exhibited by both teams as each tried to gain the upper hand. Some outstanding goal keeping from Mark Mythen in the Shels goal and tight defensive play from Damian Drennan, Kevin Byrne, Eoin O Leary, John and Conor Forde and Eoghan Nolan ensured the Harriers forwards found it very difficult to score. A single point separated the sides at half time, with the fine forward runs of Neil Rossiter, Kevin O Connor and Colin Cleary quickly saw the Shels gain the lead for the first time in the match, which they held until the final whistle despite some heavy pressure from their opponents. Neil Rossiter was scorer in chief with a fine tally of 1-4, he and his fellow forward got a plentiful supply of ball from able midfielder Eohgan Fitzgerald and Graham Staples.
