Shels not strong enough for Kilanerin

Premier A Football  12-4-08
Venue: Kilanerin

Final Score: Kilanerin 2-10     Shelmaliers 0-9

First Half
Kilanerin opened the scoring with a point after a mistake in the Shels defence. However Graham Power responded with a good point after winning good possession at centre forward. A foul in the Shels defence allowed John Hegarty to point from a free but Terry Gainfort equalised also from a free. Shels then pulled ahead after some great work by Alan Griffith set up Graham Power for his second point and  also won a second free for     Terry Gainfort. Shels were now on top with Stephen Banville and Terry Gainfort putting them 4 points ahead after 15 minutes. However, Kilanerin finished the half strongest by scoring 3 unanswered points to leave the half time score – Shels 0-6, Kilanerin 0-5.
Second Half
Kilanerin changed tactics in the second half and regularly played 12 players in defence. Some fine long clearances into their full forward line produced 1-2 within 10 minutes. Shels responded with a fine point by Clive Lawler and a pointed free by Terry Gainfort.
Stephen Banville should have goaled and some of the passing movement by the Shels broke down. This allowed Kilanerin to pull further ahead and they scored 2 more points between the 10th and 20th minute. A good move by David Kehoe, Clive Lawlor and Adrian Veale set Derek Walsh up for what seemed like a definite goal. But great covering by the Kilanerin goalie meant that Derek had to be content with a point, to leave the score at 1-9 to 0-9. Kilanerin now pushed ahead and scored 1-1 without reply, the second goal coming just on the final whistle. Final score Kilanerin 2-10, Shels 0-9.
