Shels lose out to Castletown

Premier A Football League – Shels V’s Castletown
Sat. 26th April. Venue: Hollymount

Final Score: Castletown 1-9 Shels 1-5

First Half
On a wet afternoon in Hollymount, Shels faced Castletown with an under strength team. Although Shels were playing with the wind, they started badly with some very poor ball handling and allowed Castletown in for 1-1 in the first 7 minutes. Shels then replied with two good points from Graham Power and Derek Walsh. It was tit for tat then as Terry Gainfort scored a point from play and then from a free while Castletown scored two from play. Having lost the services of Adrian Veale, Alan Griffith and Barry O’Connor through injury early in play the Shels introduced Ciaran O’Shaughnessy, Denis Kelly and Darren Malone who all had a positive impact on the game. The Shels finished the half strongly with Denis Kelly setting up Derek Walsh to score a point – although a goal was on, and Derek Walsh set up Terry Gainfort for a goal, who also scored a point. Terry Gainfort went for a goal from a close in free but it was well saved by the Castletown Goalie. Castletown scored the last score of the half with a pointed free to leave the half time score at Castletown 1-4, Shels 0-5.

Second Half
In the second half it was all Castletown as they played with the wind. Shels attacks were rare and Castletown scored 0-5 without reply. In the end, Stephen Banville set up Graham Power for a well taken goal to leave the full time score at 1-9 to 1-5 in favour of Castletown.
