Juveniles win against Harriers

fhU16 Hurling Championship V Harriers Sun 06 April 08. Venue: Hollymount

Shels needed to build on their opening win with a good performance against a solid town outfit.

First Half: Due to a very strong wind it was always going to be the proverbial game of two halves.  Having won the toss Brian Murphy elected to play with the wind with a view to putting us out of reach by half time. That’s the way it worked out. The Harriers played the whole first half with their main scoring threat, Rhys Clarke, behind their own half-back line. As a result they couldn’t score. Our backs were on top and kept the ball moving well to our forwards who worked hard to create openings. Shane Birney, Craig McCabe, Stephen Corrigan all showed well in this period while Brian Murphy carried out a one-man demolition job on the Harriers’ defence.
Half-time score: Shels 2-12: Harriers 0-0.

Second half: We spent twenty minutes of the second half under severe pressure. We were against the wind, and injuries to Aidan Cash and Craig McCabe disrupted our shape and game. The Harriers scored 1-13 in this period. We replied with a goal from Turf and two beautiful points from Stephen Corrigan and Niall Tobin. Special mention must go to Feargal Hynes, who played a fine game, although carrying an injury from his charity cycle on Saturday.
Full-time score: Shels 3-14; Harriers 1-13.
