Shelmaliers had a comprehensive win over Castletown to progress to the final of the Jim Byrne Cup. The holders led from the start and whilst Castletown never gave up, the over the water side were in command throughout the match.
Whilst the Castletown defence endeavoured their best, attacking Shels players were rarely off target and with Alan Rossiter continuing his high scoring form of the tournament, ably aided by Shane Murphy and Shane O’Connor, the result was never in any great danger.
Brian Tobin, Brian O’Connor and Conor Byrne were solid in defence and the mid field pairing of Benny Barron and Aaron Watters were mighty. Joe Kelly led the charge on the half forward line and all other players were at the height of the game in this semi final.
With a strong panel of more than 30 players, the Jim Byrne team mentors of Benny McCabe, Timmy Walsh, David Shiggins and Kenny Hearne will be spoilt for choice for the final.
We wish them the best.
