Large attendance at AGM in Curracloe.
The AGM of the Shelmalier GAA club took place on Sunday last in Hotel Curracloe with a large attendance present. Outgoing Chairman Noel Ryan opened the meeting and highlighted a very successful year for the club, having reached senior grade for the first time when our Intermediate footballers beat Kilmore in the county final and the first stage of the major development complex completed.
Secretary Peggy Kelly gave an extensive report on the clubs activities over the year. She said that 2007 was a great year for the club both on and off the field of play. The first function was recently held in our magnificent new complex when the club received the very first Heartsafe award. She complemented the footballers in winning both the Intermediate and Junior titles and she stated that the senior hurlers were very unlucky in their campaign, with the Junior hurlers reaching both the league and championship finals. She congratulated Brian Malone, Clive Lawlor and Stephen Banville on winning the Intermediate All Ireland title with Wexford and highlighted the achievement of both the Ladies Footballers and Camogie players in their respective finals.
Treasurer Ann McGrath presented a very impressive balance sheet with a number of projects raising sufficient funds to run the club for the year. Larry Banville and Neil Hurley outlined the up to date position in relation to the new club complex. They stated that stage one of the project was now completed, with the fitting out of the complex the next proposed stage. They said a lot of work and fund raising was still needed to finish the complex and they thanked the generosity of the people of the parish who helped take the project this far.
