‘Project 2010’
Following three years of consolation, planning and development among all the local clubs involved, the development of a new complex building at the Shelmalier grounds in Hollymount began earlier this year. The impressively designed building will replace the existing club house and will cater for the ever increasing needs of the members of Shelmalier GAA Club, Shelmalier Ladies’s Football, and St Ibar’s/Shelmalier Camogie Club, Shelmalier Coiste Na nOg, Castlebridge Handball Club and the wider Castlebridge parish community. The complex consists of an entrance lobby, a lift, 6 high quality dressing rooms, a referee’s room, an office and a boiler house of the ground floor and the first floor of the building will contain: two meeting rooms, a function room/gym, a kitchen, main sports hall and a handball alley. Work on the building continued over the summer months and on Friday evening last a large number of members from the four clubs gathered to get their first viewing of the new complex building at this stage of the project. Shelmalier Chairman Noel Ryan had the honour of opening the door for the first time and explaining the layout of the building. He said that he was delighted that the building had reached this stage on schedule, but a lot of hard work and fundraising was still needed to finish the complex. The members from the various clubs had the highest of praise for the design and construction of the complex. The club would like to thank the generosity of the people of the parish and beyond who helped progress the development to this stage and the club looks forward to your continued support in order to make this project a reality as soon as possible. The new complex is only part of the overall redevelopment of the facilities at Hollymount called ‘Project 2010’ which has a final completion date of the year 2010 which is the centenary of the famous Castlebridge clubs victory in the All Ireland final of that year. Other facilities included in the redevelopment will be: the development of a fourth playing pitch, a hurling wall, a perimeter walk way, a grand stand and an athletics area.
