U16 Hurling

Juveniles finish qualifiers strongly

Shelmaliers V Shamrocks Monday 10th September, 2007.

Shelmaliers made the trip to Shamrocks for their last game in the qualifiers of the U16 Championship.  With Shels already through to the semi finals, the outcome was unimportant, but no one told the boys that.
With Brian Doyle, Benny Barron and Brian Tobin all in top scoring form, Shels hit 1-3 without reply, a converted free from the Shamrocks plus a 65’ following with a point from play, were to be Shamrocks only 3 scores at half time. Meanwhile Shels were in top flight with Ronan Kavanagh, Johnny Campbell, Kevin O’Leary and Brian (Turf) Murphy (1-1) all finding their mark to leave the half time score 2-10 to 0-3.

With management using the comfortable lead to make the maximum changes allowed, Craig McCabe, Sean Walsh, Stephen Corrigan, Niall Murphy and Conor Tobin were all introduced during the second half.

The Shamrocks managed to double their score in the 2nd half to 6 points, whilst Shels scorers in the first half kept adding to the tally with Aidan Cash, Conor Tobin, James Gordon (1-0) F, and Sean Walsh all getting on the score sheet also to leave a final score 5-22 to 0-6. On a day when there were a lot of scores, our highest scorer was from a man who usually lines out in the backs. Brian Tobin scored a fabulous 3-4 on the day.  Ian Kavanagh and Noel Mythen were strong in defence.
