Junior A hurlers gain first win in League championship against St Fintans.
The Shelmalier Junior A hurling team got their first win of the group stages of the championship when they completely outclassed St. Fintans in Taghmon on Sunday last. The Shels raced in to an early lead with points from Tommie Barron, Cathal Gaule and three points from frees by Chris Wall. St Fintans struggled to stay with Shels but kept in touch a number of points from frees. A goal from Joe Kelly with 5 min to half time and further points from Cathal Gaule and Chris Wall left the Shels with a comfortable 1-10 to 0-6 lead at half time. The Shelmalier scorers in the first half were, Chris Wall 0-5, Joe Kelly 1-1, T. Barron 0-1, C. Gaul 0-2 and C. Byrne 0-1
The black and amber side continued to play some great hurling and when Connor Walsh scored a great goal after some great inter passing the game was over as a contest. Cathal Gaule, Joe Kelly and Tommie Barron then added further points, before the Shels ran out easy winners on the score line of 2-19 to 1-10. Good performances on the day came from Cathal Gaule, Eoin Doyle, Darren Malone, Joe Kelly, Conor Byrne and Chris Wall. The teams second half scores came from, C. Gaul 0-1, Eoin Doyle 0-1, W.O Shaughnessy, 0-1, Conor Walsh 1-1, T. Barron 0-1, C. Byrne 0-1, J. Kelly 0-2 and J. Redmond 0-1.
