The Shels U16 footballers had a comprehensive victory of 9-11 to 1-06 over Ferns St. Aidens in round 5 of the league played in Hollymount on Sunday July 8th.  A goal by Brian Doyle in the first minute was quickly followed by points from James Gordon, Kevin O’Leary, Fergal Hynes and another from Brian Doyle in the 7th minute.  The Shels were totally dominant and Rory O’Leary scored the first of his three goals on 8 minutes.  Ferns had to wait until the 16th minute to register their first score and they added three further points before the interval with the Shels replying with three further points through Brian Doyle to leave the half time score 2-08 to 0-04 in favour of the Shels boys.

The second half turned into a goals feast for the Shels as they hit the net seven times.  Fergal Hynes set the ball rolling when he converted a 3rd minute penalty.  Further goals from James Gordon and Rory O’Leary in the 12th and 13th minutes left the Shels ahead 5-10 to 0-04.  Ferns did manage to score 1-02 in the final 15 minutes but the Shels boys added four further goals, two from Glen Murphy, Brian Doyle and Rory O’Leary’s third major.
