COMMUNITY GAMES
The local Castlebridge/Crossabeg Community Games Area will have two teams in contention at the Community Games Leinster semi-finals and finals to be held in Carlow this coming Saturday and Sunday, July 7th and 8th. The under 13 Indoor Soccer boys team have come their second round match seeing off the challenge of a team from Tullaroan, Co. Kilkenny on a 6-0 scoreline, thanks to goals by Stephen McGuire (3) Adam Whitmore (1) and Conor Forde (2) The Under 16 Chess team are also through to the Leinster semi-finals and will be in action over the weekend as well. Best of luck to both teams.
Castlebridge/Crossabeg`s under 11 Hurlers played hosts to a team from Callan, Co. Kilkenny, in the second round of the Leinster Games in Oylegate on Tuesday night of last week. Alas, the Wexford team took quite a hammering from a very stong and competitive side. The final score was 4-10 to 0-1 in favour of Kilkenny. Many of Castlebridge/Crossabeg`s best players did not perform on the night and it is frightening to see how far we are behind the Kilkenny lads in terms of skill despite all the work put into the game over the years. On the night the best players were Eddie Mernagh, Glen Malone ,Thomas Doyle, and Seamus Casey. The Mentors were very pleased nonetheless to have worked with this great bunch of chaps who were very well behaved, most polite and friendly with the three Clubs mixing very well together and all the training sessions well attended and all players giving of their very best. On the field of play they did not have the same degree of competition and aggression displayed by their opponents nor did those on the line drive on the team at the pitch the Kilkenny team were mentored at. Thanks to Eamonn Mernagh who together with the help of the parents provided refreshments for both teams and their supporters in his premises.
