Commanding victory for under 14 footballers.

The under 14 footballers played Clongeen on Wednesday evening last in Hollymount and had a convincing 7-12 to 1-6 victory.

The under 14 footballers played Clongeen on Wednesday evening last in Hollymount and had a convincing 7-12 to 1-6 victory. The Shelmaliers started slowly with many moves breaking down in their opponents half of the field, however Craig McCabe opened the scoring for the Shels with a point after 8 minutes. Conor Tobin added a second point before centre forward Glen Murphy scored a great when put through by his fellow forwards. The Shelmaliers took control of the game from that point onwards and had further points from James Adair, AJ Lehane, Niall Tobin, before Kevin Byrne and Niall Tobin registered two more goals for the home team. The second half was a repeat of the first with the home team dictating play and displaying some great team play, moving the ball with some fine combination play. Shane Birney excelled in goal bringing off many fine saves and he got great assistance from his full back line of Eoin O Leary, Paraic O Leary and Jack Murphy. Niall and Conor Tobin both contributed 1-1 in the first 15 minutes of the second half, before Glen Murphy fired in his second goal of the game after 18 minutes. Shane Birney came out of goal to get the Shels final goal and Craig McCabe got the last score of the game when getting a point from a difficult angle. The Shelmalier half back line of Kevin Byrne, AJ Lehane and Eoghan Fitzgerald came more into the game in the second half and Conor Tobin and Craig McCabe both dominated the middle of the field, with James Adair, Niall Tobin and Glen Murphy lively up front for the winners.
