Shelmalier Minor hurlers produced a scintillating display against St. Anne's
in Rathangan on Sunday. The match was played as part of the St. Anne's
official opening and compliments to the home club for the excellent
facilities on display. Although the weather conditions were atrocious the
Shels produced the better hurling all through and playing with the wind led
of halftime by 2-13 to 0-01 with the goals coming from Chris Wall and Conor
Walsh after some excellent stick work and pin- point pass from Joe Kelly. The
St. Anne's lone score of the half came from Padraig O'Keeffe. On the
resumption, the visitors pressed home their advantage and went on a goal
scoring rout with Brian Doyle notching three, Chris Wall adding his second
and Ciaran O'Shaughnessy one. St. Anne's reply came from two pointed Mark
Foley frees. This was an excellent team performance and leaves this team
with two wins from two games going into the break for exams. Also a speedy
recovery to Jimmer Doyle who had to retire in the first half with a nasty
leg injury.
