U21's beat Dunbrody Gaels
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 20:53

Shels made the long trek to Horeswood last Monday evening where the met the Dunbrody Gales, the combined outfit of Horeswood and St. James Ramsgrange, in the Co. U21 Hurling semi final. Read on for report

It was a fine evening for the game and Shels started well getting a few fine points from open play.

There were a few responses from Dunbrody Gaels, but the shels were up by 5 points when Dunbrody Gaels took a quick 40 yard free which went straight to the net which seemed to bring them back into the game. The shels then missed a goal on the stroke of half time but were still up by three points at half time. 0-9 to 1-3.

In the second half the Shels started brightly scoring some fine points with ease. Kevin O’Leary then after Trojan work put Shane Griffith through for a well taken goal. The Dunbrody Gaels then got 2 goals through some lack concentration from the Shels. However when the pressure came on the Shels, they seemed to up the pace again and score a few insurance points to eventually win by 4 point on a score line of  1-18 to 3-8.

Amongst those playing well for the Shels were Andre O’Brien, James Gordon who cleared ball after ball, Benny Barron in midfield and Joe Kelly who scored constantly  and Shane Griffith who was a constant menace throughout

Team: Brian Murphy, Noel Mythen, Conor Byrne (0-2F), Andre O’Brien, Aidan Cash, Conor Walsh, James Gordon, Benny Barron (0-2), Brian Tobin (0-1), Feargal Hynes, Joe Kelly (0-10,5F), Shane Birney, Shane Griffith (1-1), Ronan Kavanagh (0-1), Kevin O’Leary. Sub introduced Conor Tobin (0-1)

We will now meet Glynn /Barntown who beat Oulart/The Ballagh in the other semi final by 5 points next week on Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd August. Venue & time to be arranged.
