Shels minor footballers had a great win Sunday in the Jim Byrne cup quarter final v Oylgate. Some great scores on a very wet and windy day, well done to all, wishing a speedy recovery to Craig Parker, who got a nasty knock during the game.
Shelmalier minor footballers exited the Jim Byrne Cup competition on Sunday when Gusserane were the victors, Shelmaliers 3-4 Gusserane 3-10.
Playing with the assistance of a strong breeze in the first the Shelmaliers didn’t make proper use of the wind and were guilty of wasting a number of scoring opportunities. Gusserane scoring two fine goals in this half with the Shelmalier cause not helped when they were fielding a side missing a number of their regular players due to their upcoming commitments with St Peters College. It was a much better performance by the black and amber men in the second half when goals from Kyle Roche, Ross Banville and Liam Rockett but only two points between the sides, however, the Gusserane side finished the stronger and go through to the next round.
