All Ireland semi final

Our Under 10 will represent Wexford

We got great news on Friday that our Under 10 girls were chosen to form the pre-match guard of honour and then play a mini-game at half-time at the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior camogie championship semi-final between Wexford and Cork in Semple Stadium, Thurles, on Saturday, August 23rd at 2 pm.

All Clubs were invited to enter a draw and we were one of the four lucky one selected.  Our girls will play against Sliabh Rua from Cork, while Cloughbawn will play against Tracton, with all participants required to be at the venue no later than 1 pm.  Strict guidelines have been laid down by the Camogie Association which are beyond our control, with the main one stipulating that only ten players are allowed per team.  Team Manager Austin Hearne will be in contact with Parents to discuss.

Our players must wear their full club colours with skorts and socks (no shorts).  There will be no dressing rooms available so players must arrive togged out.

We are delighted to have six of our Senior team in contention for places with the Wexford Senior camogie team – team captain Kate Kelly, Katrina Parrock, Aine Lacey, Ciara Donohoe, Mag Kelly and Bridget Curran – this will be a great day for the club.  We hope that club members of all ages will make the trip to give their support!!

U8 camogie

Our U8 team did fantastic at the Co Blitz

held in Tagoat yesterday, it was a brilliant success with a total of 20 girls representing our Club, some of them for the first time.  We fielded two teams, playing six games in total, winning three and nearly winning the other three!  Well done to Catherine and her helpers on the great work put in at this level.

Best of luck to them as they travel to Oylegate for a challenge game tomorrow evening (Monday) at 6.15 pm.

U12 camogie

Congrats on their victory over Gusserane 4-1 to 2-3 Friday, Aug 8th

The girls yet again did their club mentors and parents proud this evening, 5 points down at half-time, pulling it back to win by 2 points.  Unfortunately Gusserane had only 8 players, so we facilitated them by playing eight a-side on a smaller pitch, and their Manager refereed the game.  Team manager Tom, and mentors Andy and Trish were delighted with the girls showing their skills, mentors Angie & John could not make the game, but are on hand each week at training.

Team as follows:  Mai ling Tynan, Beth Byrne, Amy O’Connor, Sophie Whelan, Caoimhe Parker (1-1), Katie Feeney (3-0), Aoife Hearne and Abigail Gillen.  Subs:  Andrea Fielding for A Hearne (HT), Nicole Gillen for A Gillen (HT) and Grace Harding-Kenny for M Tynan.

Training continues next Monday, August 11th 6.30 to 7.30 pm for all!  The practise game on Wednesday evening, has been postponed due to ‘Field day’ in Screen village for clean Screen fundraising, and we have just got word the 1st U14 playoff is also on Wednesday evening, v Oulart date and time TBC.

Please keep Friday, August 22nd free for the finals in Hollymount.

On Friday July 11th, the U12 Red team were victorious over Oylegate/Glenbrien, 2-1 to 0-4, both teams only had 12 girls, so it was agreed to play 12 a-side, there was a thrilling start in the third minute when Ibars opened with the first goal, coming from a handpass from Katie Feeney to Hannah Hearne finishing it in the net, the girls played very well and were very evenly matched with the opposition, our backs Amy O’Connor, Nicole Harding-Kenny and Erin Kehoe led by Becky Halligan, made great clearances, while Catie Byrne in goal made fantastic saves.  The sliotar was moved swiftly through mid-field by Ciara McMahon, Ciara Banville and Andrea Fielding, with some unfortunate wides conceded, leaving the halftime score 1-0 to us to 0-0.

One minute into the second half Oylegate scored a lovely point, but our forwards Hannah Hearne, Katie Feeney, Sophie Wheland Caoimhe Parker kept battling hard to get those scores.  Ciara Banville took up goal position, while Catie Byrne came out in centre back position, and Becky Halligan moved to centre field.  In the eighth minute Andrea Fielding hit the net from a well taken free, but Oylegate replied in the ninth minute with a point, followed by another point in the eleventh minute.  Hannah Hearne changed positions with Ciara in goal for the last ten minutes.  Andrea Fielding completed the scores for the Ibars finishing with a point from a solo run from midfield, and Oylegate replied with a well taken point, leaving the full time score 2-1 to 0-4.  Team as follows:  Catie Byrne, Amy O’Connor, Nicole Harding-Kenny, Erin Kehoe, Becky Halligan, Ciara Banville, Andrea Fielding (1-1), Hannah Hearne (1-0), Katie Feeney, Sophie Whelan, Caoimhe Parker and Ciara McMahon.  Mentors on the night John Banville, Andy O’Connor and Trish Fielding were delighted with the girls overall performance, and they did all that was asked of them.  Keep up the good work girls and we look forward to seeing you all at training on Monday evening at 6.30 pm.

Rackard league camogie

Have to be complimented on reaching the semi final

On Tuesday, May 27th against Bunclody in Shamrocks Enniscorthy.

The whole team displayed their fantastic skills, level at half time with 2 goal a piece, our goals coming from Hannah Hearne, and Andrea Fielding pointing a free in the second half, we were leading by a point.  In the last minute of the game Referee awarded Bunclody a free, (some have a different opinion as to whether or not this was a free or not), and Bunclody scored a goal from the free, the whistle was then blown, and we unfortunately lost out by 2 points.

Our girls and their mentors and parents were extremely disappointed as on the day we proved how  good we were, it just wasn’t meant to be.

So girls hold your heads up high and remember the winning will soon come, the experience you are all receiving with each game is phenomenal and just to see the improvement in each girl is a credit to you all!!

Team as follows:  Aoife Doyle, Hannah Hearne (2-0), Becky Halligan, Catie Byrne, Abbie Devereux, Ailis Neville, Caitriona Kinsella, Ciara Banville, Niamh Kehoe, Andrea Fielding (0-1 free), Aoibhe Murphy, Alison Doyle.  Subs:  Chloe Murphy, Beth Byrne, Amy O’Connor, Ava Manley, Sophie Byrne, Ciara McMahon.

Team Manager Miss Anne Dempsey Screen NS, selector Miss Amanda Bolger, Castlebridge NS and Ms Nessa Gately Screen NS and Mr Ed Lyons Principal Castlebridge NS, A huge thank you to all of you for your commitment over the last few weeks.  Also a big thank you to the Parents for attending games and bringing the girls.
