A great success

What a fantastic night for all on Friday night last as the Shelmalier Scor na nOg Variety concert with friends, took place in the newly renovated Screen Hall, in aid of ‘Temple Street Hospital for Children’, a very worthy cause.

It was decided to re-run the Scór na nÓg for all who didn’t get a chance to see it in Oulart, and we were delighted that the local Folk group, Group singers, the Murphvilles and Special guests Kenny Hearne, Conor Byrne & Myles Doyle joined forces to make the night such a success.

Our MC for the night was Aidan O’Leary, who was spectacular, with the folk group opening the night with ‘Viva la Vida’ & ‘Lean on me’, Sinead Rowland, Aoife Fielding (guitar), Fiona Kinsella, Thea Kehoe, Anna Quaid, Aisling Feeney (Guitar), Kelsey Daly, Shauna Kelly, Peter Doyle, Anna Whelan, Sarah Doyle, Lauren Gordan & Kim Quaid.

Next up were the talented local girls of Niamh & Aoife Hearne, Lucy Roche, Ciara, Sinéad & Saoirse Banville & Kayleigh Murphy with a fantastic rendition of ‘The Cup Song’.  Next up were our Léiriú group to reached the All-Ireland Final in Dublin in January with their piece ‘The Giants Wife’, those involved were Sarah & Anna Whelan, Sarah Doyle, Aisling Feeney, Alison Doyle, Nicole Pierce, Aoife Hearne, Ciara McMahon & Anna Whelan.

A change in tempo followed with the Margo Murphy School of Irish Dancing, consisting of Aoife & Andrea Fielding, Thea & Erin Kehoe, Laura O’Connor & Aoibhe Murphy.  Our Scór singer Nicole Pierce sang ‘Carrickfergus’ beautiful.

Our special guests, Kenny Hearne, Conor Byrne & Myles Doyle brought the audience to a fit of laughter, with their fantastic sketch ‘No Sky’.  The first half completed with a fantastic display of instrumental music performed by Conor Roche, Nicole & Grace Harding-Kenny and Katie Feeney, our Junior Scór na nÓg representatives.

The second half began with a ‘Medley of Instrumental music’ by the talented Ciara, Sinéad & Saoirse Banville & Kayleigh Murphy, playing their instruments.  Next up our young comedians of Gary & Adam Murphy, Anna Whelan, Sophie Whelan & Cathal Harding who gave it their all with ‘A Swim in Kennedy Park’.  While our dancers brought Irish dancing to another level, with their A-Team army dance.

There was a fantastic piece of instrumental music from our senior scor na nOg group featuring Alison & Peter Doyle, Sarah Harding-Kenny, Mikaela Lanigan, Anna Whelan & Enya Byrne, followed by The Rose’ sang beautifully by Shauna Kelly, Anna Quaid & Kelsey Daly.

Ciara Donohoe & Aine Lacey, our club & county camogie players, presented each participant in the Scór na nÓg, with a surprise Certificate sponsored by the Camogie Club, as a thank you for their dedication.  All who took part on the night gathered on stage for the finale of ‘The Galway Girl’.
