Hard luck to our U-14 Feile team who were defeated by St. Conleths of Laois1-6 to 1-5 in the Division 3 Feile Final played in Owenbeg Derry on Sunday 30th June.
The Panel of players for Feile were: Chloe Mythen, Mikaela Lanigan, Sadbh Mc Carthy, Eleanor Lacey, Deirdre Byrne, Sarah Harding Kenny, Jennifer Murphy, Larah Campbell, Sinead RonanJohn, Fiona Kinsella, Jessie Harding, Siobhan Doolan, Megan Scallan, Jamie Devereux, Kelly Scallan, Julie Halpin, Kara Doyle, Emma Rossiter, Caitlin Carroll, Molly Byrne, Ailish Neville, Lauren Dempsey, Ciara Forde, Caitlin Malone, and Sinead Rowland all played at some stage over the weekend.
In the group games Shelmalier played their host Club Ballinascreen Derry and defeated them 7.8 to 2.1. Scorers Jessie Harding 3.1, Siobhan Doolan 1.5 Fiona Kinsella 1.1 Jamie Devereux 1.1 Sinead RonanJohn 1.0. Following lunch provided by the host families the travelling party departed for Celtic park to take part in the Feile Parade.
On Saturday the Division 3 group 1 skills semi final was held in Ballinascreen and Chloe Mythen won the group 1 to go forward to the Division 3 Skills final.
In the 2nd group game the girls played Shane O’ Neills (Armagh) and won this game 3-1 to 0-0. Scorers Siobhan Doolan 1-1 Fiona Kinsella 2-0. Shelmalier had now qualified for the semi-final. Semi-finals were played in Ballymacguigan and Shelmalier opponents were Dungarvan (Waterford) In a tightly contested game Shelmalier were worthy winners on a scoreline of 3-2 to 2-3. Scorers Siobhan Doolan 1-1 Kelly Scallan 1-0 Jessie Harding 0.1 and Jamie Devereux 1-0. Unfortunately about 15 minutes in to the second half wingback Jennifer Murphy suffered a wrist injury. Jennifer was taken to Derry hospital where her worse fear was confirmed she had a broken wrist. Jennifer had played a big part in Shelmalier reaching the final. In the skills final Chloe Mythen came 3rd. Well done Chloe! The skills final was followed by the 2nd semi final St. Conleths (Laois) defeated St. Pats (Wicklow)
Division 3 Feile Final.
Shelmalier v St. Conleths played in Owenbeg pitch at 10-30am on Sunday 30th. This was a highly contested final. St. Conleths opened the scoring with a point in the first minute of the game. Shelmalier registered their first score after 6mins a point from Siobhan Doolan this was followed 7 mins later with a point from Jamie Devereux. St. Conleths registered 2 more points before half time to leave the score Shelmalier 0-2 St. Conleths 0-3. In the opening minute of the second half Emma Rossiter scored a point to put the sides level. St. Conleths replied with 2 point. With 12 minutes gone in second half Siobhan Doolan pointed. Jessie Harding’s goal put the Shels in front 1-4 to 0-5. St. Conleths replied within 4 minutes with a goal. Shelmalier last score to level the game was a point by Siobhan Doolan. However in the last remaining minute of the game St. Conleths scored a point to capture the Division 3 Feile title 1-6 to 1-5. Ulster President Joe Lagan who was deputising for our National President Pat Quill who is recuperating at home following his recent operation presented Shelmalier players with their R/U medals. Pat was on hand to welcome our players and mentors home to Hollymount on Sunday evening.

To Screen, Curracloe and Castlebridge schools who held a no uniform day and raffle, all monies raised to be divided between ladies football and camogie. We thank the club officers, parents and our County Chairman Peadar O’Connor and his wife Mai who traveled to Derry to support the girls, your support was very much appreciated. Dr Eamonn McCarthy who attended to the sick and injured. Wayne Duggan who took charge of club equipment over the weekend, Secretary Ceara O’Brien who made sure that whatever information was required by the organising committee was gathered and returned to them immediately. Leona Tector who ensured our players and mentors had their new gear well in time for our Feile trip. To the big number of people who turned out to welcome home our players and mentors Sunday evening.
