The latest handball news.

Another victory for star Dean.

All Ireland junior singles 60×30 college finals played in Mullingar on Saturday. Dean Corrigan received a walkover from Niall Donaghy, Tyrone who he beat in the all Ireland singles in Croke Park. In the final, Dean met 2006 40×20 world champion Padraig Carroll from Limerick. After a marathon struggle, in the 1st game Dean won 21-17. In the 2nd game Carroll won 21-11. In the tiebreaker Dean overwhelmed Carroll and ran out on 11-3 scoreline. Dean is certainly a wonderful prospect for the future of handball in Wexford.

60×30 success in Castlebridge alley.

Handball News
Dean Corrigan won the Leinster final ( 60×30 ) Singles title played at Castlebridge Alley, making it the first time that Wexford have won this title since 1971.  Well done Dean.  This was a memorable game of handball by two of Leinsters top Juveniles. In the first game Dean got off to a great start and went on to win on a 15-10 scoreline. In the second game Niall O' Connor won on a 15-11 scoreline after a very tight game. In the third and final game Dean Corrigan,  after a bad start and behind on a 7-0 scoreline,  gradually battled his way back into contention and ended up on a 8 -8 scoreline.  This was a nail-biting session.  At 11-11 Corrigan played some great shots to get to 14-11. O' Connor got back in to serve and brought his score up  to 12-14 but Dean Corrigan finished off the game with a great passing shot up to the right. The All Ireland 60×30 semi finals will be held this coming weekend at a Leinster venue. It will be Leinster V Connaught in all age groups, singles and doubles. Good luck to all who will be competing for Club and County. In the Leinster u14 doubles,  Cory Murphy and Walter Lawlor played against Kilkenny's Mason Clifford and Peter Funchion but were defeated after a great battle.

Fund-raising initiative
Castlebridge Handball Club embarked on a successful money-making fund-raiser some years ago.   Members of the Club have been growing `Sweet Pea` flowers  which they sell locally in Flanagans of Castlebridge  and in Pettitts Supervalu Stores. They are one of the most popular flowers and are reportedly selling very well.   All proceeds go to the Handabll Club who are most greatful to the Supermarket Chains for their support.
The Handball Club had great success in the Bunclody Show winning  first and second prize for  the "Best Sweet Pea".  They also entered Sweet Pea in Piltown  and won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.  Well done to all concerned.
