All Ireland Handball Glory

All Ireland success for Hall and Kavanagh

Wexford celebrated its second premier under 14 All Ireland 60 x 30 doubles win in handball in as many years as Tomas Hall and Daniel Kavanagh delivered the goods on the biggest day of all. This was Tomas Hall’s second time in two years winning this title, but it’s certainly another one he will cherish .
Up against Stephen Smith and Tomas Donohue from Cavan it was an awesome performance from the Wexford boys who lead from pillar to post in a very dominant display. Winning the first set is crucial and the model county men bombarded their opponents in a 15-4 win. The second set took much the same pattern as the better team work and handball of the Wexford duo shown through as they captured the second set 15-6 and in so doing won the title.
It was not to be for the model county in the Girls under 15 doubles this weekend as Chloe Cash and Courtney Browne lost out in the final to a very strong Galway pairing of Anna Ni Murchu and Eimear Bhiada. The first game was one to forget for the Wexford pairing as the tribe’s women secured a 15-1 win. However the girls in maroon and white were sweating near the end of the second set but they somehow got over the line on a 15-14 score line and one feels had the Wexford girls won the second set they would have taken the game.
Entry deadlines
All Wexford handball players intent on taking part in this year’s World handball championships in The City West hotel in Dublin are reminded that this Friday the 24th of August is the closing date for entries. There are competitions for all age groups and all levels and with huge numbers of Wexford players involved it will be an exciting month for the model county from the 11th to the 21st of October.
All players interested in playing in this year’s county one wall competition on the 29th and 30th of October in St Joseph’s handball centre are reminded that entries are now being sought

Jason Murphy in All Ireland Handball final

Jason Murphy was not in the mood to entertain hot prospect Keith Kavanagh from Wicklow and let his handball do the talking as he claimed a spot in the final of the All Ireland Hardball 60 x 30 minor singles .

This was a fantastic win for the Castlebridge youth who found his ‘A’ game on the right night to fire himself into and All Ireland final .The opening set Jason took after a great battle on a 21-17 score line .
From there on, with his head up and playing some fantastic handball, Jason Murphy took control and pulled out a second set win on a 21-11 score line.
The final takes place next Saturday before Gavin’s quarter final with Jason Murphy set to do battle for the gold medal with Stephen Cooney from Mayo who is one of the best minor players in the country.
