Junior hurlers through to Semi’s

The Shelmalier junior hurlers had a narrow 14 points to 12  victory over St Mary’s Rosslare in the quarter final of the junior hurling championship played in Taghmon on Sunday last.

Michael Feeney got his team off to an early start with a pointed free in the second minute and with further points from Chris Gordon and three more points from sharp shooter Michael Feeney the Shelmaliers trailed on a first half score line of 0-5 to Rosslare’s 0-8. Rosslare came out very strong in the second half and built up a five point lead after 10 minutes. However, the Shelmaliers were determined to stay in the game and they showed a great fighting spirit in the third quarter with four further frees from Michael Feeney put the Shelmaliers right back in the match. A great run by Aaron O Neill from defence saw him fire over a great point and Eoghan Nolan repeated the exercise shortly afterwards to put his side into the lead. There was great tension in the closing five minutes of play with the black and amber side winning out by a two point margin. They now go forward to the county semi-final in a number of weeks.
