Junior Footballers retain status

The Shelmalier junior football retained their championship status with a 2-13 to 2-6 victory over Marshalstown, in St Patrick’s Park on Friday evening last.

Craig Parker and Stephen McGuire combined in the opening minutes to put their team’s first score on the scoreboard, with further points coming from Kevin O Leary and Craig Parker before Marshalstown hit back with a goal in the 20th minute. Niall Murphy and Aodhan Foley added to the Shelmaliers score before Kevin O Leary got his team’s first goal just before half time. The Shelmaliers lead by a point at half time with additional scores coming from Craig Parker and Eoin O Leary before Marshalstown got their second goal to level matters after 10 minutes of the second half. Scores from Denis Kelly, Neal Rossiter, Conor Hearne, Niall Murphy gave the Shelmaliers a deserving lead before Craig Parker fired home a penalty in the 25th minute to give his side a deserving victory. The junior hurlers now play Rosslare on Sunday next in Taghmon at 1-30pm in the junior hurling county quarter final and your support would be greatly appreciated.
