The Shelmalier junior hurlers travelled to Cushinstown on Saturday evening last when they took on Gusserane in the 5th round of the championship.
Gusserane took an early 3 point lead before Conor Byrne fired over his sides first point with a 50 yard free in the 12th minute. Conor continued his great accuracy from frees and play when he also got the Shelmaliers next four points to give his side the lead. Chris Gordon pointed in the 25th minute to give his side a two point lead before Conor Byrne getting two further points to give a half time lead of 0-8 to 0-4. Conor Byrne extended this lead with two pointed free in the first 5 minutes of the resumption before Gusserane had four unanswered points to leave only two points between the sides. A goal for Gusserane in the 14th minutes left the sides level entering the final quarter with Gusserane proved the stronger winning by the narrowest of margins 1-11 to 0-13.
The focus returns to the football championship next week with the senior footballers playing Glynn/Barntown in the county quarter final in Bellefield on Saturday 3rd September at 2pm with the junior footballers taking on Marshalstown in St Patricks Park on Friday 2nd at 7pm.
