Coiste N’Og

It was a busy week for the underage section of the Shelmalier GAA Club with activity at all age levels.

The under12 hurlers have qualified for both the A and B county finals with the A team having a convincing win over Rathnure in the semi-final. They now play St Mogue’s Fethard in the A final tonight Tues 30th August in Clongeen starting at 6-30pm. The under 12 B team play Glynn/Barntown on Sunday next 4th September in Oylegate starting at 11-30 am. Your support is requested for both finals. There was great excitement in Hollymount on Thursday evening last when the Shelmalier minor footballers took on Gorey in the championship. The game was end to end throughout with Gorey pulling away in the final quarter, however, the Shelmalier boys were not be deterred with two late goals giving the home side victory by 2-6 to 2-5. There was also an exciting finish in the under 14 football championship on Monday night in Hollymount when the Shelmaliers took on Ballinstraw Gaels in the championship quarter final when the game went to extra time. As the light faded the local boys proved the stronger and now go forward to the semi-final of the competition. The under 10s and under 8s have also been busy with the under 10 hurlers taking on Bannow/Ballymitty on Friday night and the under 8 hurlers battling with St Martins on Sunday morning with both games in Hollymount.
