The Shelmalier senior hurlers took on near neighbours Glynn/Barntown in the Wexford senior league in Hollymount on Saturday.
After an exciting match the visitors scored two late points to claim victory on a score line of Shelmaliers 2-15 Glynn/Barntown 1-20. A Stephen Whelan goal with 3 minutes to go put the sides level at 2-15 to 1-18, ensuring a nail biting finish but the Glynn men forced two late scored to claim victory, however, the Shelmaliers had some late opportunities to claim victory for themselves. Ciaran O Shaughnessy got his sides first score with a point after 4 minutes of play and the Shelmaliers were twice denied goal scoring opportunities early in the game. However, Joe Kelly made no mistake in the 12 minute when he fired to the Glynn to leave the sides level at 1-2 to 0-5. Two points from Tommy Barron again had the sides level and Joe Kelly’s accuracy from frees saw a half time score line of Shelmaliers 1-8 Glynn 1-12. Both sides exhibited great hurling skills in the second half, however, Glynn’s late rally saw them claim both point in an exciting match.
