Both the hurling teams from Rathnure in senior and Gorey in junior visited Hollymount on Saturday last in the first league round of the season.
With the senior narrowly going down to the Mount Leinster men and the juniors claiming their first victory. The seniors got off to a great start with sharp shooter Joe Kelly firing over six points in the first 20 minutes. The Shelmaliers were awarded a penalty when Aidan Murphy was fouled in the square with brother Brian coming up to fire to the Rathnure net. Stephen Banville fired over two points to give the home team a 1-8 to 1-3 half time lead. Rathnure were dominate in the second half with the sides level after 20 minutes. The game was stopped for a long period when James Cash was attended to having received a nasty blow to the head. The last 10 minutes was an exciting affair with the lead changed on many occasions, with Rathnure eventual winners by 1-16 to 1-14. Everybody in the club would like to wish James a speedy recovery.
