Shelmalier senior footballers departed the championship at the semi final stage in Wexford Park on Sat last when they played St James’ in the replay having drawn the previous week.
AJ Lehane opened the scoring for the Shelmaliers with a point in the second minute and further points from Craig McCabe and Glen Malone saw the black and amber side lead by a point at the end of the first quarter. A goal for St James’ gave them the initiative but points from Brian Malone and Aidan Murphy saw the Shelmaliers trail by two points at half time 1-4 to 0-5. If the first half was an even affair the second half belonged to St James’ and they soon ran up a score of 1-8 0-5 at the end of the third quarter. A late rally for the Shelmaliers saw Graham Staples and Craig McCabe pointing in the 20th minute, however, three late points from Craig McCabe (2) and Aidan Cash wasn’t enough to claim victory resulting in a final score line of Shelmaliers 0-10 St James’ 2-9.
