The Shelmalier junior footballers finished the league stages of the championship when they took on Monageer in Ballymurn on Sunday morning last.
The Shelmaliers started brightly with two Colin Redmond points saw the sides level after 12 min of play and with further points from Michael Feeney, Derek Walsh and Conor Hearne gave the black and amber side at 0-6 to 0-3 half time lead. A well worked goal and a point from Monageer early on the resumption saw them take the lead for the first time in the match, however, the Shelmaliers regained the lead when Michael Feeney fired in a goal in the 10th minute. The remainder of the half saw the Shelmaliers hold on to their lead and were heading for victory until an unfortunate own goal by the Shelmaliers saw Monageer win by the narrowest of margins 2-6 to 1-8. The Shelmaliers now qualify for the quarter finals which will take place shortly
