An hour & a half of tremendous hurling tussle couldn’t separate the Shelmalier senior hurlers from their opponents Buffers Alley in the league semi final in Monamolin on Sat evening last.
When Joe Kelly fired over the equalizing point in the closing minutes of extra time the score board read Shelmaliers 2-17 Buffers Alley 3-14 with the sides having to meet again to decide who will play the Faythe Harries in the league final. The Shelmaliers took the initiative in the first half and they led by 0-8 to 0-5 at half time. With some great scores from both teams the sides were level 2-8 to 1-11 as the game entered the last 10 minutes of normal play and they couldn’t be separated when the referee blew for full time with the Shelmaliers 1-12 Buffers Alley 2-9. The closeness of the contest continued in extra time with the sides tied again at 2-14 apiece at the end of the first period of extra time. The Alley got an early goal on the resumption by the brave men of Shelmalier ensured a replay with three late points.
