Our senior hurlers met Ferns in the 3rd round of the championship this week.
Showing great determination and hurling skill the Shelmalier senior hurlers overcame Ferns on a score line of 2-14 to 0-15 in the third round of the championship played in Bellefield on Saturday last. The Shelmaliers lead from start to finish with Brian Doyle and Brian Malone opened the scoring before Joe Kelly fired over from a Ciaran O Shaughnessy pass in the fifth minute. The Shelmaliers extended their lead by 6 points to 3 before Ciaran O Shaughnessy fired to the Ferns goal from a fine delivery from Eoghan Nolan. Leading 1-8 to 0-8 at half time Joe Kelly kept firing over the points on the resumption to increase the Shelmaliers lead to 1-13 to 0-10 before the Brian Malone got his side’s second goal in the 15th minute after some fine combination play between Eoghan Nolan and Ciaran O Shaughnessy. Ferns did put in a late rally but the Shelmaliers were always in control.
