LFC U16 V Kilmore

On Thursday last, under the watchful eye of referee Barry Redmond, Shelmalier U16 girls took on Kilmore in their opening game of the season.

The Shels girls showed great determination from the start with some great movement across the pitch. It was not long before their first score came in the third minute form a well taken goal from the full forward Julia Halpin. This was followed swiftly with a point from Fiona Kinsella to see Shels lead the way after 5 minutes. Kilmore began to find their feet with their mid-field pairing working hard to put ball into their full forward line, however the Shels full back line of Mikaela Lannigan, Sadbh McCarthy and Jennifer Murphy was impenetrable and a some fine saves from Caitlin Carroll in goal helped in keeping Kilmore scoreless for the entire first half. Further scores from Sarah Harding Kenny, Chloe Mythen, Siobhan Doolan and Jess Harding saw Shels lead at half time by an impressive 2-07 to 0-00.

The second half opened once again with Shels getting the first score, a goal from centre forward Jess Harding. Unfortunately from here Shels were to have a slight dry spell in scoring allowing Kilmore to clock up a score of 2-02 without reply. Wing forward Fiona Kinsella began the scoring again with a fine point which was worked from the half back line through Deirdre Byrne. This was followed by another point from midfielder Siobhan Doolan and another goal from Chloe Mythen finished off the game leaving Shels undoubted winners on a scoreline of 4-09 to 2-02.
