Junior Hurlers V Ferns

The Shelmalier junior hurlers were at home to Ferns on Sunday afternoon and had a convincing 2-14 to 0-11.

Playing with the assistance of the wind in the first half the Shelmaliers built up a commanding first half lead, with Ferns coming more into the game in the second half but they couldn’t catch the more dominate Shelmalier side. The Shelmalier minor footballers were also in action on Sunday when they trevelled to Taghmon in the third round of the minor championship and after a great struggle the sides were level 1-7 to 0-10 at the final whistle. Playing against the wind in the first half the Shelmalier boys trailed by five points at half time 0-1 to 0-6, however, the Shelmaliers were much more dominate in the second half and traded point for point in the third quarter. With time ticking down on the clock Liam Rockett fired to the Taghmon net to draw the match. Next week it’s the turn of the minor hurling championship when Rathnure are the opponents.
