Dream of the Double Dashed

After the challenging 8 week run in both hurling & football Shelmaliers senior footballers narrowly lost out to St Anne’s on a score line of 0-9 to 0-7 in the Co. Semi final  in Wexford Park on Sunday last.

The result was in doubt to the final whistle with the Shelmaliers missing two frees in the final five minutes of play to level the score. Simon Donohoe opened the scoring for the Shelmaliers in the 6th minute before two great saves by Shels goalie Graham Lawlor- Ryan kept his side in the game. St Anne’s lead by 0-6 to 0-3 with some questionable frees given by the days referee, which really frustrated the large Shelmalier support present at the match. As the game entered the final five minutes the Shelmaliers players made every effort to get control of the game without success. We extend a big ‘thank you’ to all our players who have given us great enjoyment and pleasure during the long season. The next competition up for decision is the under 21 football championship when the Shelmaliers open the defence of their under 21 championship title when they take on Glynn/Barntown on Saturday next 15th Nov in Hollymount at 2pm.
