Martin’s prove too strong for Senior footballers
The first quarter of this third round of the senior football championship match between St Martin’s and the Shelmaliers in Wexford on Tuesday night last was an even and challenging contest as both sides were guilty of many missed chances. The sides were level after 15 minutes with the Shelmalier scores coming from Derek Walsh (2) and Liam Donnelly. St Martin’s extended their lead in the second quarter with 3 unanswered points to leave a half time score of St Martin’s 0-6 Shelmaliers 0-3. St Martin’s continued their dominance on the resumption and extended their lead by 1-7 to 0-3 before Liam Donnelly go his sides fourth point in the 8th minute. Craig McCabe got his side’s 5th point on the 10th minute but St Martin’s got their second goal in the 12th minute to put 10 points between the sides. The Shelmaliers did rally in the closing 10 minutes with a point from Aidan Murphy and a penalty scored by Craig McCabe, but it was too little too late and St Martin’s ran out victors on a score line of Shelmalier 1-6 St Martin’s 2-12.
