U12 2nd round Vols Tournament

Sunday morning saw the boys head back into the Vols for the 2nd round of their tournament.

It was a cold wet Sunday morning and the boys turned up in great numbers. We were down to play 2 games today. The selectors had a hard job picking 2 teams from the large squad because both games were equally important so after a lot of head scratching and talking the teams were sorted. The first game was again Kilrush. This was a very tight game. Paul Hearne took on the task of been the goalie and what a great job he did as well. Playing against a strong wind the midfield were very busy with Adam O’Leary and Joe Devereux putting in a great performance. Ben McAleese really put in a good performance partnered by Tiarnan Malone also very good. The full back line of Conor Roche and Aodhan Byrne were excellent stopping almost everything that came their way. Dylan O’Neill saw a couple of shots go just wide in the first half. At half time it was Kilrush 2 points to the Shels no score. Second half was just as exciting with Ryan Kielty putting in an excellent ball to Dylan O’Neill who scored an equally excellent goal to give the Shels the lead. Corrie Lawlor played a great game with Mark Scallan been impressive today also. David Doyle went into the half forward line to have a go at Kilrush. The lads put a lot of pressure on Kilrush pushing to get a score. Kilrush got 2 frees which they got 2 points from giving them a 1 point lead. In the last few minutes we got a free which was dropped into a packed box, Mark Scallan let fly first time when the ball landed in front of him but it went just wide to deny him a score. The lads must have hearts of lions because they fought right to the final whistle to get a score but it just didn’t happen final score was Shels 1 goal Kilrush 4 points. Unfortunately when we were in the dressing room preparing for the 2nd game the organisers came in to inform us that Gusserane failed to turn up and we were awarded the game. So a special word of thanks to the boys who didn’t get to play our first game we do apologise that you didn’t get a game today unfortunately it was out of our control. Next week we are in the group b final against Taghmon/Camross,  throw in is at 11.30. Best of luck to the boys in their game on Sunday ALL support welcome. Well done to all the boys a great TEAM.
