If it’s fun and enjoyment you are looking for, make your way to GAA grounds in Hollymount for the Annual Shelmalier Field Day on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd June starting at 1pm.
The annual Field Day is always a big local attraction and meeting place for all the people of the parish and beyond with something for all ages. The racing sheep have been on the gallops for some months now in readiness for the main sheep racing event and the ducks have been paddling feverously in the local rivers in anticipation for the duck racing. If its bargains you are looking for there will be plenty in the bric a brac, vegetable, bottle and produce stalls. If it’s a simple cup of tea and a scone, or a fine big juicy burger, or a 99 ice-cream cone you are looking for all will be available on the day. Music, dancing and singing will come from the impressive Sound Wagon and stage and if you want to test your skills there will be the usual competitions such as hurling, football, fishing for bottles, basketball, darts and much more. All the children will be specially catered for with a special children’s sports, face painting, sand castle building, egg and spoon, sack racing, hurling and football competitions. So make your way to Hollymount on Monday next for a fun event not to be missed for the whole family.
