Our senior footballers had a comfortable 4-19 to 0-09 win in the league in Hollymount sat evening.
Our senior footballers being short many regulars gave some of the younger members of the panel the opportunity to show what they had available. The team wasn’t found wanting. Straight from the off Shels were in command. Neal Rossiter, Liam Donnelly and Alan Griffith all pointing in the opening 3 minutes. Shels continued to accumulate the scores amassing 1-9 before Horeswood managed to get on the board with a good effort from their No.8 in the 17th minute. However it was Shels all the way to the half point mark Shels 2-13, Horeswood -3. Shels first half scorers Stephen Banville 1-4, Aidan Cash 1-0, Alan Griffith 2, Derek Walsh 2, Neal Rossiter 2, Tony Smith 2 and Liam Donnelly 1. Liam also did a lot of the hard work to create one of Shels goals. In the second half Horeswood were still trying hard but just not able to get into the game. They had some good efforts but several shots drifted just wide in the windy conditions. Shels goals in second half came from Derek Walsh and Liam Donnelly. Shels introduced 5 new pairs of legs and the impressive Craig McCabe and cousin Paraic (P) O’Leary recently returned from the UK made their presence felt immediately. Glen Murphy returning from a yearlong injury made several good interceptions whilst Emmet O’Leary (also returning after injury) looked dangerous on the ball. Graham Lawlor- Ryan took a spell in goal from Shane Birney and whilst not overly challenged on this occasion dealt with the few danger balls in his usual calm manner. All in all a job well done from everyone.
