Junior football V Tara Rocks

Our Junior Footballers lost to Tara Rocks today 2-11 to 0-03. Report….

The Shelmaliers opened  the scoring with Darren Malone pointing in the third minute but that turned out to be the Shelmaliers only score of the first half in their second round Junior Football championship match against the Tara Rocks played in Monamolin on Sunday last. With both sides level after 10 minutes but the Tara Rocks first team proved too strong for the Hollymount men with eight more unanswered points to leave a half time score Shelmaliers 0-1 Tara Rocks 0-9. With the Gorey district side very strong down the centre of the field the Shelmaliers had good defending from Cathal Gaule, Darren Malone, Eoin O Leary, Adrian Veale and goalie Sean Byrne.
The second half was a much more even affair with the Shelmaliers getting their second point after 5 minutes of play from Fergal Hynes. However, Tara Rocks produced the killer blow to the Shelmaliers hopes of victory with two well taken goals in the 9th and 11th minutes. The reminder of the game saw some fine fielding from both sides with Glen Murphy, Glen Malone, James Shiggins, Conor Byrne and Willie O Shaughnessy moving the ball very well in the Shelmalier forward lines. Jody Donohoe got the Shelmaliers third and final score in the 22nd minute to leave a full time score Tara Rocks 2-11 Shelmaliers 0-3.
