Hard luck to our U14 team who lost out to Oulart/The Ballagh 1-4 to 5-3 on St Patrick’s evening in Hollymount
Team as follows: Áine Fitzgerald, Alison Doyle, Molly Byrne, Aoife Doyle, Hannah Hearne, Chloe Mythen, Sarah Whelan, Sarah Harding-Kenny (0-2), Cáitlin Carroll, Ailis Neville, Mikaela Lanigan (1-0, 0-1 free), Aoife Fielding, Caitriona Kinsella, Lauren Murphy(0-1), Andrea Fielding. Subs: Aoibhe Murphy for A Fielding injured, Catie Byrne for Alison Doyle and Nicole Harding-Kenny.
Our girls did well in their first league game of the season putting up a good tough game of camogie against Oulart/The Ballagh. Oulart won the toss but opted to play against the wind in the first half. Oulart opened with their first point, followed by Mikaela Lanigan scoring the Ibars first point from a free, Ibars kept the pressure on the Oulart defence with Sarah Harding-Kenny sending in a sweet point, followed by another from play. Aoibhe Murphy went on for Aoife Fielding who got injured. Half-time score 0-4 Ibars to 0-2 Oulart.
The second half began with the pressure on our defence, and our goalie Áine who did a great job despite having a knee injury making some fantastic saves. We were unfortunate not to have extra scores in the second half. Despite the final score line, it was no reflection on the way our girls played calling for each other, and great to see the older girls from last year’s panel encouraging the younger girls, who stepped up to the mark. Their Manager Mick Lanigan, mentors Emma Carroll and Mag Murphy were very pleased with their performance.
Thank you to Paul Kenny Referee, and the umpires and linesmen.
