Seniors win by narrowest of margins.

In poor weather conditions the Faythe Harries visited Hollymount on Sunday morning last to take on the home team in the third round of the Senior Hurling League.

After an exciting encounter the Shelmaliers won by the narrowest of margins 4-14 to 3-16. The Shelmaliers got off to a great start with Conor Byrne firing to the Harriers net in the 2nd minute. Further points from Ciaran O Shaughnessy, Brian Doyle, Ciaran Walsh and Eoin Doyle saw the Shelmaliers lead by a single point after 15 minutes. However, the Harriers took control of the game from that point and had eight unanswered points, before two late points from Ciaran O Shaughnessy and Tommy Barron left a half time score of 1-6 to 1-11 in favour of the Faythe Harriers.

The Shelmaliers came out the stronger at the start of the second half and two further points from Conor Byrne which left a single goal between the teams. A goal and a point from the Harriers in the 10th minute put the challenge up to the Shelmaliers and they were certainly rose to the occasion with Conor Byrne getting his second goal after good work by Ciaran O Shaughnessy. The Shelmaliers continued this scoring with points from Conor Byrne and Ciaran O Shaughnessy. Joe Kelly increased the Shelmaliers dominance with a goal in the 15th minute and Conor Byrne got his third goal with further points from Conor Byrne (4) and Ciaran O Shaughnessy to leave a final score Shelmaliers 4-14 Faythe Harriers 3-16.
